Essequibo’s Dawchan Nagassar has been re-elected to lead the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC). This election took place during the Annual General Meeting held on Sunday at the ECB Hostel in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, as reported in a press release.

A notable turnout was observed with the largest delegation of candidates from Berbice and Demerara joining their Essequibian colleagues, resulting in a total of 49 votes cast. The meeting’s agenda covered various topics, including the minutes from the 2023 meeting, adoption of the minutes, correspondence, reports from area associations (Demerara, Berbice, and Essequibo), as well as the President’s, Secretary’s, and Treasurer’s reports. Additional discussions included Any Other Business and Resolutions/Motions.

In the presidential election, Nagassar secured his position against Shannon Crawford with a close vote of 27 to 22. Similarly, in the vice-presidential race, Ryan Banwarie lost to Nandkumar Shivsankar by the same margin.

The other executive members re-elected unopposed were Moses Rampal (Secretary), Javed Persaud (Treasurer), and Stephon Josiah. Sean Devers was re-elected as Public Relations Officer (PRO) but stepped down due to work commitments; Chandraban Rajnarine subsequently took over that role.
