Two Visually Impaired Friends Celebrate 8 Years of Unbreakable Bond

Despite the challenges of living without sight, 18-year-old Jarese Jeffrey and 23-year-old Meashon Paul have forged a remarkable friendship over the past eight years. As Valentine’s Day approaches, the duo reflects on their journey together, demonstrating that true connections transcend romance and are felt through the heart, rather than the eyes.

A Special Connection

Jarese, who lost his sight at the age of 3 years and 9 months, and Meashon, who was born visually impaired, consider each other more than friends; they see themselves as “siblings from another mother.” “I’ve known her since I was eight years old, back in 2014. We are basically best friends, but we like to say we’re siblings from another mother,” Jarese shared.

Meashon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their close-knit bond. “The friendship has been good because we never quarrel. Since 2014, we have remained inseparable, and our bond has only grown stronger,” she said.

Support Through Thick and Thin

Both friends have been there for each other through various life challenges. Jarese expressed gratitude for Meashon’s unwavering support. “She’s been there for me all throughout. I never cut her off, and I have several other childhood friends who remain a part of my life,” he noted.

Meashon, in turn, highlighted how Jarese serves as a source of comfort and encouragement. “He’s always there to lift me up when I’m down, and he’s a great person to talk to. He’s very supportive,” she stated.

Lifelong Commitment

Their friendship is one they wish to nurture for years to come. Jarese humorously remarked, “I have no intentions of marrying Meashon or being in a relationship with her, but she will be at my wedding.” Meashon responded with warmth, expressing her desire to continue being there for him: “I would love to continue being in his life and being here for him, as always.”

Facing Challenges Together

The friends also discussed the unique challenges of growing up visually impaired and how they have supported one another through tough times. Meashon described the hurdles she faces but emphasized the importance of family and friends in overcoming them. “Being visually impaired has its challenges at times, but so far, so good. I get support from my family and friends, and I just try to push myself to overcome any obstacles,” she shared.

Jarese reflected on his journey, revealing that he truly came to terms with his condition at the age of seven. “I always acted like a normal person, and my family treated me like one too. I thought, ‘Okay, I just see out of my right eye and not my left.’ I have about 70% vision in my right eye,” he explained.

A Journey of Resilience

Despite the difficulties, Jarese sees his blindness as a blessing in disguise. He appreciates the support he has received from family and friends throughout his life. “All in all, my journey has been great because I have supportive family members. My friends always supported me and accepted me for who I am,” he reflected.
