Mrs. Bibi Shariman Ali, the mother of Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali, was among several attendees at the launch of the One Guyana Forum’s Feed-the-Six initiative. This event included the distribution of 300 food hampers to the Empowered Life Church for those in need in Toronto, Canada.
The One Guyana Forum (OGF), a diaspora organization based in Toronto, recently introduced its Feed-the-Six community food drive to combat food insecurity in the area. With backing from the Canada-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Bank of Canada, and Global Medic, and under the patronage of Mrs. Ali, the OGF successfully provided over 1,300 food hampers through various community religious institutions, including churches, mosques, and temples.
Each hamper contained essential items such as rice, green lentils, channa, dhal, and green peas, sufficient to sustain a family of four for an entire week. Established just two years ago, OGF aims to unite and uplift the Guyanese community in Canada. The organization prioritizes support for local events, encourages collaboration among diverse groups, and works to build connections with political, law enforcement, and civic leaders.
Through initiatives like Feed-the-Six, the One Guyana Forum is not only addressing immediate needs within the community but also striving to foster enduring, positive change and awareness around the challenges faced by Guyanese in Canadian society.
