    Published on

Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), renowned as the sole remaining producer of Demerara Rums, has made a significant advancement in its ageing capacity with the establishment of a new barrel ageing warehouse at its Plantation Diamond facility in East Bank Demerara.

The DDL Board of Directors recently conducted a walk-through of the newly constructed Warehouse N, designed to house 30,000 barrels. This expansion elevates DDL’s total ageing and storage capacity to an impressive 130,000 barrels. In a media release, the company emphasized that this development enhances its capability to meet the increasing international demand for aged Demerara Rums while maintaining the distinctive quality and rich flavors that characterize these renowned spirits.

DDL has been a pioneer in the aged rum sector, having launched its award-winning El Dorado 15 Year Old in 1992. The company highlighted that a crucial aspect of its operation is the ageing of rums in oak barrels for durations spanning from one year to as long as 50 years.

Constructed at a cost of $730 million, Warehouse N signifies a substantial investment in the company’s future. “As the demand for premium aged rums continues to grow, this new facility ensures that we can continue to deliver our award-winning rums while upholding the rich heritage and craft that have made Demerara Rums a household name for rum connoisseurs globally,” stated Komal Samaroo, Chairman of DDL. He underscored the importance of this milestone during a recent tour by the Board of Directors.

With enhanced storage capacity and improved efficiency, the new facility will facilitate the long-term ageing process, guaranteeing that each bottle of Demerara rum embodies the rich signature flavors that enthusiasts around the world have come to cherish.

Demerara Distillers Limited, the producers of the globally celebrated Demerara Rums, is the last distillery in Guyana and takes pride in preserving over 300 years of distilling history. The company is also known for producing the El Dorado Range of rums, Diamond Reserve Rums, and Ivanoff Vodka.
