DDL Boosts Aging Capacity with State-of-the-Art Barrel Warehouse

    Published on

Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), renowned for producing the globally celebrated Demerara Rums, has made significant strides in enhancing its ageing capabilities with the establishment of a new barrel ageing warehouse, designated Warehouse N, located at its Plantation Diamond facility in East Bank Demerara.

According to a recent press release, this newly constructed warehouse is designed to hold 30,000 barrels, boosting DDL’s overall ageing and storage capacity to an impressive 130,000 barrels. This expansion is a strategic move to cater to the growing international demand for aged Demerara Rums, all while maintaining the exceptional quality and distinct flavours that characterize these rums.

DDL has long been a trailblazer in the aged rum sector, having introduced its award-winning El Dorado 15 Year Old in 1992. The ageing process is crucial to their operations, with rums maturing in oak barrels for durations ranging from one year to as long as 50 years. The construction of Warehouse N, which cost G$730 million, marks a substantial investment in the company’s future.

During a recent tour of the new facility by the Board of Directors, Komal Samaroo, Chairman of DDL, emphasized the significance of this development. He stated, “As the demand for premium aged rums continues to grow, this new facility ensures that we can continue to deliver our award-winning rums while upholding the rich heritage and craft that have made Demerara Rums a household name for rum connoisseurs globally. The warehouse represents another milestone in our journey to solidify Guyana’s position as a leader in the aged rum industry.”

With the enhanced storage capacity and operational efficiency, the new warehouse will facilitate the long-term ageing process, guaranteeing that every bottle of Demerara Rum embodies the rich, signature flavours cherished by rum aficionados around the world.

As the last remaining distillery in Guyana, Demerara Distillers Limited takes pride in its legacy, which spans over 300 years of distilling tradition. “Best known as the sole producer of Demerara Rums, DDL is also the esteemed maker of the El Dorado range of rums, Diamond Reserve Rums, and Ivanoff Vodka,” the company stated.
