Former Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus has withdrawn his lawsuit, which he filed in January to challenge summons issued by the Police Service Commission (PSC) tribunal investigating him. His attorneys submitted a Notice of Withdrawal on February 12, 2025, informing the Attorney-General, the PSC, and the tribunal members—Shoshanna Lall, Keoma Griffith, and Seelall Persaud—that the case initiated on January 27 has been completely discontinued.
The lawsuit had claimed violations of Brutus’s constitutional rights, referring to multiple articles of the Constitution, including Articles 8, 38, 39, 40, 65, 122(A), 141, 144, 149(D), and 154(A). On February 5, 2025, Brutus received notification of his immediate termination from the Guyana Police Force, which the PSC attributed to findings of disciplinary breaches and discreditable conduct.
The Commission detailed that these offenses occurred during Brutus’s period as Deputy Commissioner of Police (ag) – Administration between August 2020 and July 2024. The termination letter directed the Commissioner of Police to oversee the return of all government-issued documents, equipment, and other assets held by Brutus.
In addition to these developments, Brutus is also facing more than 200 criminal charges related to financial misconduct, with allegations amounting to over $800 million.
