Paul Slowe Faces Court for Alleged Breach of Victim Anonymity

    Published on

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Paul Slowe, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on February 26, 2025. Slowe pleaded not guilty to the charge of “Anonymity for Complainant in press reporting,” contrary to Section 62(3) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The charge stems from allegations that Slowe breached the anonymity of a complainant who had previously accused him of sexual assault. This action violates laws designed to protect the identities of individuals reporting sexual offences.

Key details of the case include:

    1. Slowe was represented by a legal team including attorneys Nigel Hughes, Dawn Cush, and Narissa Leander.
    2. Prior to his court appearance, Slowe had reported to the Brickdam Police Station on February 21, 2025, where he was informed of the charge and placed on $200,000 station bail.
    3. The case originated from a complaint filed by a female who had previously reported being sexually assaulted by Slowe.
    4. Police conducted a thorough investigation and submitted a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
    5. On February 20, 2025, the DPP recommended the criminal charge against Slowe.

This case adds to Slowe’s ongoing legal issues, as he still faces pending charges from October 2021 related to three counts of sexual assault. The current charge highlights the serious nature of breaching victim anonymity in sexual offence cases and the legal consequences that can follow such actions.
