    New Airstrip Possible for Charity

    Published on

The government of Guyana is considering the approval of a new airstrip in Charity, Region Two, as part of its broader strategy to enhance nationwide transportation connectivity. This development aims to improve accessibility and facilitate travel within the region, particularly for medical emergencies and tourism.

    Key Aspects of the Proposal

    • Public Access: Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill emphasized that any privately built airstrip must remain open to the public. This ensures that the facility benefits the entire community, aligning with the government’s policy of promoting public access to infrastructure.
    • Regional Development: The new airstrip is expected to play a crucial role in the region’s development by reducing travel times and enhancing connectivity. Currently, travelers often have to fly to Hampton Court and then drive to Charity, a process that will be streamlined once the airstrip is operational.
    • Infrastructure Upgrades: In addition to the proposed airstrip, the government is also focusing on upgrading the Anna Regina Aerodrome. This includes renovations to create a waiting area and other amenities, further supporting tourism and economic activities along the Essequibo coast.

    Community Impact

    • Economic Benefits: The airstrip will likely stimulate local economic growth by facilitating easier access to the region. This can attract more businesses and tourists, contributing to the overall development of Charity and surrounding areas.
    • Improved Services: Enhanced transportation infrastructure can lead to better healthcare services, as medical emergencies can be addressed more promptly with faster access to air transport.
    • Community Engagement: The project highlights the government’s commitment to engaging local communities in development initiatives, ensuring that infrastructure projects benefit residents directly.

This potential new airstrip in Charity represents a significant step forward in Guyana’s efforts to modernize its transportation network and support regional development. As plans progress, the community looks forward to the benefits that improved connectivity will bring.
