The Guyana Under-19 cricket team has endured a challenging start in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Under-19 50-Over Tournament, suffering consecutive defeats against Barbados and the United States of America.
Heavy Loss to Barbados
Guyana faced a tough opponent in Barbados, who set a commanding total of 287 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. Despite efforts from Guyana’s bowlers, each picking up a wicket, Barbados’ top order dominated the innings. In reply, Guyana’s batting lineup faltered under pressure and was bowled out for just 147 in 31.3 overs, with Shamar Apple top-scoring with 38 runs. Barbados’ bowlers, led by R’Jai Gittens, who took four wickets, ensured a comprehensive 140-run victory.
Second Defeat Against USA
In their next match, Guyana took on the USA at St. Paul’s Sports Complex in St. Kitts. Batting first, Guyana managed 150 all out in 44.2 overs, with Romario Ramdeholl (48) and Afraz Ali Budhoo (43) offering some resistance. The USA bowlers kept the pressure on, sharing the wickets evenly. The USA chased down the target comfortably, reaching 151 for 2 in 32.5 overs. Guyana’s bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs, and the USA’s top order steered them to an eight-wicket win.
