President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced that the second phase of the transformative Silica City project will be launched within weeks, with a strong focus on attracting investments from the Guyanese diaspora. This phase is expected to provide diverse opportunities for diaspora members to contribute to the development of Guyana’s first modern, sustainable city.
Speaking at a recent community meeting in Region Three, President Ali emphasized the government’s commitment to including the diaspora in this ambitious urban initiative. “The second phase will be for diaspora investments,†he stated. “You can come there, build your mall, build your apartment complex, and have your own home.â€
Silica City, located along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art urban center designed to accommodate 15,000 families. The project prioritizes sustainability and innovation, featuring smart homes equipped with energy-efficient technologies, green spaces, recreational facilities, and advanced infrastructure for water and energy management.
The government has set aside 3,800 acres of land for Silica City’s development. The first phase is already underway, with 110 young professional homes under construction. The second phase aims to expand these efforts by inviting diaspora members to invest in residential properties, commercial spaces, and other amenities such as shopping centers and hotels.
President Ali highlighted the city’s broader vision as a lifestyle hub focused on wellness, mental health, technology integration, and environmental sustainability. “It’s not just a city; it’s a way of life,†he said. “This is about building a future that extends life expectancy and enhances quality of life.â€
The government has also introduced tools such as a Local Content App and partnerships with international institutions to streamline investment processes and ensure transparency. These efforts align with Guyana’s broader push to engage its diaspora in national development initiatives.
As Silica City Phase 2 prepares to open its doors to diaspora investors, it represents not only an opportunity for wealth creation but also a chance for Guyanese abroad to play an integral role in shaping their homeland’s future.
