The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has successfully completed 12 joint replacement procedures over the weekend, marking another significant stride in its ongoing efforts to address the high demand for orthopedic surgeries in Guyana.
According to hospital officials, the weekend initiative saw eight knee replacements and four hip replacements performed by the skilled Orthopaedics Department. This concentrated effort is part of GPHC’s broader strategy to reduce the surgical backlog and improve the quality of life for patients suffering from severe joint conditions.
Patients who underwent the procedures are now on the path to recovery, receiving comprehensive post-operative care and physiotherapy to aid in their rehabilitation. The hospital’s commitment to expanding access to these life-changing surgeries is underscored by its ongoing investments in advanced surgical techniques and staff training.
GPHC remains the only public facility in Guyana offering joint replacement surgeries, and demand continues to outpace capacity, with hundreds still on the waiting list. Nevertheless, the hospital’s recent achievements—including the incorporation of innovative surgical approaches and periodic high-volume surgery drives—reflect a sustained commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare for all Guyanese.
