Statement from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) wishes to clarify and dispel concerning misinformation that has been circulating on social media platforms. A recent article falsely claims that His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, was involved in a tragic airplane crash on February 13, 2025.
The GCAA assures the public that this information is completely inaccurate. There have been no reports of any aircraft accidents within Guyana on either February 13 or 14. Furthermore, there is no active investigation related to any incident involving President Dr. Ali.
Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill, who is responsible for the aviation sector and oversees investigations into aircraft incidents in accordance with the Civil Aviation Act 2018, expressed his concern over this misleading publication. He stated, “This kind of fake news is unfounded and represents a deliberate attempt to create fear, confusion, and distrust among our citizens.”
The Minister emphasized that “President Dr. Ali is in good health and high spirits. We continue to pray for his well-being as he leads our nation with remarkable dedication and excellence.”
The GCAA urges the public and members of the media to verify information through reliable sources. We encourage everyone to be cautious when disseminating unverified content that could undermine the trust and welfare of our society.
Our commitment at the GCAA remains steadfast in ensuring the safety of our skies and the accuracy of the information provided to the public. Let us unite against misinformation and foster a culture of truthfulness.
