A Prashad Nagar resident, Heeranand Boodhram, has been placed on a two-year bond to keep the peace following his appearance in court on a threatening language charge.
Boodhram appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged under Section 14A of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act. The charge stemmed from an incident on April 21 at Waterloo Street, South Cummingsburg, where Boodhram reportedly used threatening language toward Yugindra Persaud, the husband of a woman with whom Boodhram is allegedly romantically involved.
During the hearing, Boodhram pleaded guilty with an explanation, stating that Persaud had threatened to kill him, prompting his response: “If you want to kill me, I would bruck you up.†Boodhram further told the court that Persaud had repeatedly urged him to stay away from his wife, but insisted that the issue was not his to resolve, saying, “I told him he needs to talk to his wife, not me.â€
Persaud, for his part, told the court that he and his wife were working on their marriage and that he had tried to avoid conflict. He recounted a recent incident in which Boodhram allegedly followed his car after he dropped his wife off at her mother’s home, leading Persaud to call the police. Before their arrival, Boodhram reportedly blocked Persaud’s vehicle and issued further threats. Persaud also claimed that Boodhram was under the influence of alcohol at the time and requested a restraining order, citing concerns for a child at the residence.
After considering submissions from both parties, Magistrate Azore ordered Boodhram to have no contact with Persaud and placed him on a two-year bond to keep the peace. Any breach of this bond could result in further legal consequences for Boodhram.
