A North West District man has been granted bail in the sum of $150,000 after being slapped with four gun-related charges, following his appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as 32-year-old Mark Williams, stood before Magistrate Alicia Roberts to answer to charges that include illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, discharging a loaded firearm, and threatening behavior.

According to the prosecution, Williams was apprehended last weekend after police responded to reports of gunshots in a remote section of the North West District. Upon arrival, officers allegedly found Williams in possession of an unlicensed firearm and several rounds of ammunition. Further investigations revealed that the firearm had been discharged during a heated altercation, prompting additional charges.

Williams, who was represented by attorney-at-law Samuel Peters, pleaded not guilty to all charges. In a passionate plea for bail, Peters argued that his client had no previous convictions and posed no flight risk. The prosecution, however, objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offenses and the potential threat to public safety.

After considering the arguments, Magistrate Roberts granted bail in the amount of $150,000 with strict conditions. Williams is required to report to the nearest police station every Friday and must surrender his passport until the conclusion of the case. The magistrate also warned that any attempt to interfere with witnesses or the ongoing investigation would result in immediate revocation of bail.

The matter has been adjourned to next month, when the case is expected to continue. Meanwhile, police have assured the public that they remain committed to tackling gun-related crimes in the region and have urged residents to report any suspicious activity.
