A case involving the alleged theft of a motorcycle was dismissed yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after the accused failed to appear for scheduled proceedings.
The defendant, 27-year-old Kevin Fraser of North Ruimveldt, was charged earlier this year with the theft of a Honda CG motorcycle, valued at $320,000. The incident reportedly occurred in late February, when the motorcycle was stolen from outside a local grocery store. Fraser was arrested and subsequently released on bail pending trial.
When the matter was called before Magistrate Alicia Roberts on Monday, Fraser was notably absent. His attorney informed the court that repeated attempts to contact him had been unsuccessful. The prosecution indicated that all efforts to locate the accused, including visits to his last known address, had proven futile.
With no appearance from the defendant and no reasonable explanation for his absence, Magistrate Roberts ordered the matter dismissed for want of prosecution. The complainant, who was present in court, expressed disappointment at the outcome but said he hoped justice would eventually be served.
Court officials noted that a warrant has been issued for Fraser’s arrest, and the case may be reopened should he be apprehended in the future. Meanwhile, police have urged anyone with information on Fraser’s whereabouts to come forward as investigations continue.
