Highway Accident Victim Was on First Day of New Job

    Published on

Tragedy struck on the East Bank Highway early Wednesday morning when a young man, excited to begin his first day at a new job, lost his life in a devastating road accident.

The victim, 22-year-old Kevin Persaud of Grove, had just left his home before sunrise, dressed in his new uniform and carrying a sense of hope for the future. According to family members, Persaud had recently secured a position with a local construction company and was eager to make a good impression.

Eyewitnesses report that Persaud was attempting to cross the busy highway near the Diamond intersection when he was struck by a speeding minibus heading south. The impact threw him several feet onto the roadside, leaving him critically injured. Passersby rushed to his aid and alerted emergency services, but despite their efforts, Persaud was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Hospital.

The minibus driver, a 34-year-old resident of Timehri, was taken into police custody for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed and poor visibility due to early morning fog may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to piece together the exact sequence of events.

News of Persaud’s death has sent shockwaves through the Grove community, where he was known as a hardworking and ambitious young man. His mother, Anita Persaud, described him as “full of dreams” and said he had been looking forward to supporting his family with his new job. “He was so happy last night, laying out his clothes and talking about all the things he wanted to do,” she recalled tearfully.

The construction company that had just hired Persaud expressed condolences to his family, remembering him as a promising employee with a bright future ahead.

Police have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during peak hours and in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a life cut tragically short on what should have been a day of new beginnings.
