The dynamic duo of Romaine Brackenridge and Terique Mohammed, representing Jamaica and Canada respectively, are eager to do more than simply strengthen the defensive line of Slingerz Football Club.
Romaine Brackenridge proudly receives his jersey from Slingerz FC Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz. This pair is part of a significant group of star signings for the upcoming Elite League Season Seven, which also features talents like Kelsey Benjamin and Nicholai Andrews from the Guyana Defence Force, as well as Jamaica’s Kemar Beckford, who had a stint with the club last season.
Brackenridge transitions to Slingerz from Harbour View FC in the Jamaican Premier League, while Mohammed comes from the Des Moines Menace in the United States Soccer League (USL). As they join the Slingerz squad for pre-season training, both athletes have set their sights on clinching the League title.
“First and foremost, it’s a blessing to be a part of the Slingerz family. I come here to win, not just to participate. With my talent at this club, I’m here to win trophies and elevate the club to a better status,†Brackenridge expressed during a media interaction at a training session.
In his remarks about joining Slingerz, Mohammed said, “It’s an amazing opportunity for me. I’m super excited to be here, and my expectation is to win the championship. I’m ready to play and perform.â€
During a training session at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Wednesday evening, both players shared their aspirations for contributing to the Slingerz squad.
Terique Mohammed receives his jersey from Slingerz FC Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz. “I believe I can bring a wealth of experience to the team, having played globally. My background includes playing in the Canadian Premier League, the USL Championship, and in Ireland. I can offer a lot of experience from diverse cultures, along with speed and attacking prowess, even as a defender,†Mohammed detailed.
On the other hand, Brackenridge emphasized the importance of focusing on Slingerz rather than their rivals, stating, “I want to concentrate on the Slingerz team; we’ll handle other teams as they come. My goal is to return this Slingerz jersey in a better condition than when I received it. Therefore, I’m committed to putting in the work daily to achieve that.â€
The Elite League is set to commence on Sunday, March 9, 2025. After returning to the League last year, Slingerz FC had an unbeaten season but finished second to defending champions GDF FC.
