Guyana’s senior men’s national football team, the Golden Jaguars, will be playing their ‘home game’ in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualification series against Guatemala next month in Barbados, as confirmed by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) on Tuesday.
The match is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2025, and will take place at the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA’s) Technical Centre in St. Michael, with kickoff set for 21:00h. The GFF did not provide an explanation for the decision to hold the match outside of Guyana.
This Gold Cup Qualification series against Guatemala will consist of two matches, with the Golden Jaguars facing off against Guatemala for the return match on Tuesday, February 25, at the Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City.
The Golden Jaguars have previously hosted their home games in Barbados, with their last match against Barbados occurring on November 19, 2024, where they secured a 5-3 victory.
The team had a challenging year in 2024, playing all of their home games in Barbados due to the poor condition of the ground at the National Track and Field Center (NTFC) in Leonora, West Coast Demerara. This situation led to the GFF incurring a fine in 2023 after a match against the Bahamas was played on the damaged surface.
Following repairs, the Golden Jaguars were able to return to their home venue during the September-November International window for the CONCACAF Nations League 2024/2025.
