Defending champions GTA Storm have kicked off the 2025 basketball season in commanding fashion, thanks in large part to a standout performance from their star player, Jonathan Driffield.
In their season opener at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Sunday night, GTA Storm delivered a dominant display, defeating the Georgetown Titans 82-65. Driffield, the team’s versatile forward, led the charge with an impressive 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists, setting the tone for what promises to be another thrilling campaign for the reigning champs.
From the opening whistle, GTA Storm showcased the form that made them last year’s title winners. Driffield’s energy on both ends of the court was matched by strong support from teammates Michael Adams and Kareem Peters, who chipped in with 15 and 13 points respectively. The team’s defensive intensity forced multiple turnovers, allowing them to build an early lead that they never relinquished.
Fans in attendance were treated to a fast-paced, action-packed contest, with Storm’s trademark teamwork and tactical discipline on full display. Head coach Samuel Grant praised his squad’s focus and execution, noting that the team has set high standards for the new season.
“We wanted to make a statement in our first game, and the guys delivered,” Grant said after the match. “Jonathan’s leadership was outstanding, and the whole team played with heart and discipline.”
With this impressive start, GTA Storm have sent a clear message to their rivals that they intend to defend their crown. As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Driffield and his teammates as they aim to maintain their winning momentum and secure back-to-back championships.
