Double Day Hotel Owner Ordered to Report Daily to Police, Barred from Leaving Country Amid Ongoing Investigation

    Published on

The owner of the Double Day Hotel, recently released from police custody, now faces strict legal restrictions as the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge intensifies. Authorities have mandated that the hotel proprietor report to the police station every day and have imposed a travel ban, preventing him from leaving the country while the probe remains active.

The hotel owner’s release from custody came after the statutory detention period expired, but law enforcement officials emphasized that he remains a person of interest in the ongoing case. The Guyana Police Force confirmed that the investigation is “serious in nature,” with multiple strands being pursued, including advanced forensic analysis. DNA samples from both the hotel owner and the late Adriana Younge are being sent to the Mount Sinai Health System in New York for comprehensive testing, accompanied by a police forensic investigator.

The case has also led to significant internal scrutiny within the police force. Several law enforcement officers and civilian staff have been placed on administrative leave, including a high-ranking assistant commissioner, as authorities examine potential errors and misconduct related to the investigation. Notably, a civilian employee admitted to mistakenly inputting the wrong date while reviewing security footage, resulting in a misleading report about Adriana’s movements on the day she disappeared. Further investigation revealed that a Special Constabulary sergeant falsely claimed to have received a tip about Adriana entering a black vehicle, with evidence later showing the information was based on hearsay and not a legitimate lead.

As the investigation continues, the Double Day Hotel owner’s daily check-ins and travel restrictions underscore the gravity of the situation and the determination of authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent process. The Guyana Police Force has stated that the probe remains ongoing, with no timeline yet for its conclusion.
