Shameena Budhu, a 59-year-old housewife from Good Hope (Sand Road) on the Essequibo Coast, has been remanded to prison after being charged with cocaine trafficking. The charge stems from her alleged possession of 2.03 grams of cocaine, discovered during her arrest on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Budhu appeared before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Monday. She pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. However, the prosecutor objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offense. As a result, Budhu was remanded to prison.
The case has been adjourned until April 17, 2025, for further reporting. This incident underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement in combating drug-related crimes in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and raises concerns about the prevalence of narcotics trafficking in rural communities.
Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to address such offenses and ensure that justice is served.
