Georgetown, Guyana – In a swift operation early Sunday morning, the Anti-Terrorism Unit of the Guyana Police Force recovered an illegal firearm in the South Ruimveldt area after two men on a motorcycle abandoned their vehicle and fled upon spotting a police patrol.
The incident occurred around 5:00 AM near Macaw Lane, where officers on mobile patrol noticed the duo behaving suspiciously. When the police attempted to intercept them, the suspects ditched their motorcycle and escaped through a nearby alleyway.
A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of a .38 Taurus revolver, which was not loaded. The motorcycle, bearing registration number CP 152, was also retrieved. Preliminary checks revealed that the vehicle is registered to a resident of Norton Street, Lodge. However, attempts to locate the owner have so far been unsuccessful.
The firearm and motorcycle were transported to the East La Penitence Police Station for further investigation. Forensic testing on the revolver revealed no fingerprints, and it has since been lodged for ballistic analysis.
Law enforcement officials have intensified their search for the two suspects as investigations continue. The recovery of the firearm underscores ongoing efforts by the Anti-Terrorism Unit to curb illegal activities and enhance public safety in Georgetown.
