Government Invests Over $1.2 Billion to Enhance Water Delivery in Region Seven

    Published on

The government of Guyana has made a significant investment of over $1.2 billion to improve water delivery in Region Seven. This substantial investment is part of a broader effort to ensure that all citizens have access to clean and potable water.

    Background on the Investment

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing water services in the region. The investment includes the construction of a new $468 million water treatment plant at Five Miles, which is expected to be completed by mid-2025. Once operational, this plant will supply treated water to residents from Five Miles to Seven Miles, improving the overall water quality and availability in the area.

Impact on Water Quality and Availability

Currently, residents in Central Bartica receive water from the existing treatment plant, but the new facility will allow for a more reliable and consistent supply. The government aims to eliminate the current water distribution schedule, which limits water availability to specific hours, and instead provide a 24-hour service to areas like Central Bartica up to Three Miles.

Ongoing Water Projects in Region Seven

In addition to the new water treatment plant, the government has completed water systems in several areas, including Kurutuku, Kamarang, Jawalla, Kako, Bartica, Tasserene, Kaikan, Dagg Point, and Isseneru. These projects have significantly enhanced the delivery of treated water to many households in the region.

    Conclusion

The government’s investment in Region Seven’s water infrastructure underscores its commitment to improving the lives of its citizens by providing essential services like clean water. As these projects continue to develop, they are expected to contribute to better health outcomes and economic opportunities for the local community.
