Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Supports Mashramani Street Football Championships
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S) is set to provide substantial support for the upcoming Mashramani Street Football Championships, with the Semi-Final and Final matches scheduled for this Saturday at the National Park, starting at 19:00 hrs.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Sports Management Inc. (SMI), the organizing body for the event, expressed its gratitude to Minister Charles Ramson Jr. for his significant support.
Official Endorsement
Minister Ramson, alongside Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, Assistant Director of Sport Franklin Wilson, and Edison Jefford, participated in a photo opportunity, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the event. The release noted, “We are grateful to Minister Ramson and wish to thank him and the Government of Guyana for their support of this event and the communities involved in this level of sport. This leadership is crucial for holistic sport development.”
The press release emphasized the government’s active role in promoting sports at every level, stating that Minister Ramson’s vibrant efforts will greatly benefit grassroots sports participation.
Event Details and Prizes
Edison Jefford, principal of SMI, reached out to the Minister to request support for the Championships, to which Ramson promptly agreed. The Minister is also expected to attend the event on Saturday night.
As the Ministry responsible for Mashramani activities, the support from MCY&S is considered a significant endorsement for the only sports event on the Mashramani calendar. “We are thrilled and believe we are moving in the right direction with such major backing,” the release added.
The Mashramani Street Football Championships will conclude with the Final Four and Finals on Saturday, where the winning team will receive $500,000, with second, third, and fourth place teams awarded $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively. Trophies will be given to the top three teams, and the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be honored with $50,000 and a trophy.
Additionally, there will be Plate Playoffs involving the four losing quarterfinalists and the top two teams from the Super-16 round, offering a total prize purse of $100,000. Each of the top three teams in this playoff will also receive a case of Magnum Tonic Wine.
