The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has taken significant action following an internal investigation into a stillbirth case that garnered media attention. A senior doctor has been terminated, and two others have been suspended as a result of the findings.
In a press release, GPHC indicated that a thorough investigation was conducted to evaluate the care provided during the incident. The independent review panel concluded that the doctors involved failed to follow established medical protocols, leading to several recommendations for corrective action.
As part of these recommendations, GPHC has enacted the following measures: the dismissal of the senior doctor responsible for overseeing the shift and case, whose lack of supervision contributed to protocol violations, and a 28-day suspension for two other doctors who had senior oversight of the case.
Following the investigation, GPHC’s administration has met with the affected patient and her family to discuss the findings and the steps taken in response. The family expressed their satisfaction with the actions implemented by the hospital.
GPHC expressed deep regret over the incident and acknowledged its impact on the family involved. The organization emphasized its commitment to ongoing improvement, accountability, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care. The hospital pledged to take all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
