Health Minister Unveils State-of-the-Art Mammogram Machine at LHC

    Published on

The Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, inaugurated a cutting-edge mammogram machine at the Linden Hospital Complex yesterday, signifying a crucial advancement in breast cancer screening services nationwide. Until now, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) was the sole public facility providing mammography services. This new installation enhances access to early breast cancer detection for residents in Region 10 and nearby areas, alleviating the need for lengthy travel to obtain screenings.

In his address, Dr. Frank Anthony underscored the critical role of early detection in decreasing cancer-related fatalities. “For many years, we have advocated for a structured cancer program, and now we are taking proactive measures to put it into action. By introducing mammography machines in every region, we are facilitating easier access to screening services,†he stated.

The Health Minister also highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing cancer care through prompt diagnosis and treatment. “To improve survivability, we must guarantee early detection and swift intervention. Previously, patients had to wait over a month for biopsy results; today, that period has been shortened to just three to seven days,†Dr. Anthony noted.

The inauguration ceremony for the mammogram machine at the Linden Hospital Complex is the first of four planned installations, with more units set to be introduced in the upcoming months. The Ministry of Health remains focused on enhancing healthcare accessibility, ensuring that advanced medical technologies reach communities outside of Georgetown.

Among those in attendance were Regional Health Officer Dr. Gregory Harris, Regional Executive Officer Dwight John, Director of Non-communicable Diseases Dr. Lachmine Lall, and other officials.
