The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is currently hosting a notable delegation from the French Armed Forces, specifically from the French Guiana contingent, for the 3rd Regional Military Exchange Meeting. This event is being held at the Officers’ Mess in Base Camp Ayanganna and aims to enhance military collaboration while exploring new partnership opportunities between Guyana and France.
During the formal opening ceremony this morning, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, Chief of Defence Staff, extended a warm welcome to the French delegation, which is headed by Major General Marc Le Bouil, the Superior Commander of the Armed Forces in French Guiana. Brigadier Khan expressed his appreciation for their visit and highlighted the robust, ongoing relationship between the two nations, which is grounded in both military and civilian partnerships.
He underscored the significance of sustained collaboration, especially as France prepares to open its first embassy in Guyana. “Our partnership encompasses more than just military aspects; it includes economic, trade, and diplomatic relations,†Brigadier Khan remarked. “We are eager to enhance our connection and reaffirm our shared dedication to regional security and stability.â€
Brigadier Khan also acknowledged France’s continuous support for Guyana, noting that it has played a crucial role in strengthening the country’s security framework, fostering mutual trust, and enhancing bilateral relations.
