TAU Students Brighten Lives at Palms Elderly Home with Essential Donations

    Published on

Students from Texila American University (TAU) recently visited the Palms Elderly Home, reinforcing the university’s dedication to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community involvement. This visit included a donation to the Palms Elderly Home located on Brickdam, Georgetown, aimed at supporting the elderly residents while providing students with practical experience in geriatric care.

During the initiative, students contributed adult pampers, a crucial necessity for many individuals in elderly care facilities. This generous donation addressed an essential aspect of daily living, significantly improving the comfort and dignity of the elderly residents. The visit had dual objectives, as stated by the university: to assist the elderly and to immerse students in the complexities of elderly care.

Through meaningful interactions, students gained a profound understanding of the physical, emotional, and social challenges encountered by older adults. They observed the effects of chronic illnesses, mobility limitations, and cognitive decline on daily life. Furthermore, students learned about the importance of holistic care, recognizing that it is vital to provide not only medical assistance but also social and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for the elderly.

Engaging with the residents allowed students to practice their communication skills and acquire valuable insights into the roles healthcare professionals play in managing both physical and mental health within aging populations. The visit highlighted the necessity for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to elderly care, illustrating how medical treatment and social interventions must be coordinated to effectively meet the residents’ needs.

“By bridging academic knowledge with real-world experience, these initiatives equip students with the empathy, skills, and understanding essential for excelling in geriatric medicine and delivering optimal care to an aging population,” the university remarked on Tuesday.
