In a significant move to modernize Guyana’s healthcare sector, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony has announced that over 250 Guyanese will be trained to manage digital health platforms. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the country’s health information systems and technology (HIST) capabilities.
The training program, supported by the Greater Guyana Initiative, aims to equip healthcare workers with the skills needed to implement, manage, and maintain digital health systems, including a national electronic health records system. This system is designed to improve patient care by streamlining medical records and enhancing data management.
The training will be conducted through the Guyana Digital Health Training Institute, a collaborative effort between Mount Sinai Health Systems and the Ministry of Health. The institute will offer tuition-free training across all ten regions of Guyana, providing stipends to participants and guaranteeing employment upon completion.
Minister Anthony emphasized the importance of digitalization in healthcare, stating that it is crucial for improving efficiency and patient outcomes. The program aligns with Guyana’s broader strategy to transform its healthcare sector, leveraging technology to address challenges in remote and underserved areas.
