In an ongoing initiative to enhance healthcare accessibility throughout Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), the Ministry of Health has officially inaugurated the Muritaro Health Post, a newly built facility valued at $23.7 million. This state-of-the-art health post is designed to cater to the healthcare needs of over 400 residents, effectively bringing vital medical services closer to the community and minimizing the necessity for extensive travel to larger healthcare institutions.
Local residents will have access to a comprehensive array of free healthcare services, which include maternal and child health care, chronic disease management, family planning, vaccination programs, school and adolescent health services, as well as general outpatient care. During the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to bolstering healthcare services across all regions. “We are striving to ensure that every community has a health post or health center in place, providing quality health services to residents,†he stated.
The Minister also noted that under the PPPC Government, 25 new health centers have been established across different regions to address the healthcare needs of various communities. Furthermore, Dr. Anthony revealed that hospital services nationwide will see improvements with the introduction of six new state-of-the-art facilities slated to open later this year.
In addition, Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr. Gregory Harris, expressed appreciation to the Government of Guyana for their investment and commitment to healthcare in the region. He encouraged community members to take full advantage of the services provided. The Muritaro Health Post is thoroughly equipped and staffed with qualified healthcare professionals, ensuring that all residents receive ongoing and high-quality medical care. Other notable attendees at the event included Toshao Owen Bowling, Regional Executive Officer (REO) Mr. Dwight John, and additional officials.
