The blaze, believed to have been caused by a domestic dispute that escalated into arson, quickly engulfed the wooden and concrete structures. Despite the prompt response of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), which deployed tenders from its headquarters and the West Ruimveldt Fire Station, the fire consumed the homes before it could be brought under control. Approximately 3,000 gallons of water were used to prevent the flames from spreading further into the neighborhood.
The displaced families are now grappling with the loss of their homes and belongings. Many of them are staying with relatives or in temporary shelters as they try to figure out how to move forward.
