Police are investigating a fatal accident in Linden that claimed the life of 25-year-old motorcyclist Joshua Ross on Tuesday night. The collision occurred around 8:00 PM at the intersection of Amelia’s Ward Public Road and Toucan Drive in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The accident involved a motorcar, driven by 69-year-old pensioner Juliet Alexander, and a motorcycle ridden by Ross, an unemployed resident of Industrial Area, Linden. According to reports, the motorcar was traveling north along Toucan Drive, while the motorcycle was heading east on Amelia’s Ward Public Road at high speed in a zig-zag motion. Investigators noted that Ross was not wearing a helmet and had his motorcycle lights off at the time of the crash.
As the car attempted to cross the public road after briefly stopping, the motorcycle collided with its front left side. The impact flung Ross several feet onto the northern parapet, leaving him with severe injuries. Public-spirited citizens rushed him to the Linden Hospital Complex, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded for examination as part of the ongoing investigation. The driver of the motorcar remains in police custody and is assisting with inquiries.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety measures, including wearing helmets and adhering to traffic regulations. Authorities continue to stress the need for caution on the roads to prevent such devastating accidents.
