Horse Cart Operator Dies After Being Shot, Robbed by Gunmen in Albouystown

    Published on

A 40-year-old horse cart operator, Chandradeo Kumar Singh, tragically lost his life on Monday during surgery after being shot and robbed by gunmen in Albouystown, Georgetown. The incident occurred on March 31, 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM on Hill Street.

According to police reports, Singh was sitting outside his home on an old refrigerator, playing cards with two friends—Reyaz Ali and Mark Soodoo—when two men approached on a blue-and-black motorcycle. Both assailants were armed with handguns and wore surgical masks to conceal their identities. Witnesses recounted that the gunmen dismounted the bike and pointed their weapons at Singh before firing a warning shot into the air.

Singh attempted to flee through an alley leading to his home, but the gunmen pursued him. They opened fire, striking him twice in both thighs above the knees. After incapacitating him, the attackers robbed Singh of two gold chains and a wallet containing $40,000 before fleeing the scene.

Neighbors rushed to Singh’s aid, carrying him out of the alley and transporting him to the hospital in a private vehicle. Despite emergency surgery, he succumbed to his injuries later that day.

Singh’s family expressed shock and grief over his death, recounting how they rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news but were informed by doctors that he had not survived. The police have launched an investigation into the incident as they work to identify and apprehend the suspects.

This tragic event has left the Albouystown community shaken and serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by violent crime in the area. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward as investigations continue.
