GEORGETOWN, Guyana – January 29th, 2026.
Prominent Guyanese businessman and philanthropist, Ed Ahmad has acquired a strategic investment in WANSAT Networks Inc. (WANSAT), a leading satellite broadband internet provider in Guyana. This strategic move strengthens Ahmad’s portfolio of investments in Guyana’s growing telecommunications and infrastructure sectors, aiming to accelerate digital inclusion across the nation. This acquisition will enable Mr. Ahmad’s company, Guyana Global Tech-Comm Inc.(GGT) to leverage WANSAT’s products to enhance its service offerings, while WANSAT gains access to expanded market reach and resources. This investment and alignment mark a major strategic shift for Guyana Global Tech-Comm Inc. (GGT) and WANSAT, aimed at transforming the ISP into a full-service technology powerhouse.
The investment will focus heavily on expanding connectivity in Guyana’s hardest-to-reach regions while introducing critical next-generation infrastructure, including the development of local Data Centers to support data sovereignty and security. Through this acquisition, Ed Ahmad aims to bolster Guyana’s digital landscape by investing in “new generation” digital services. A primary focus is the establishment of Data Centers and the expansion of value-added IT services, such as network architecture, cyber security, and business intelligence platforms, for both government and enterprise clients.
“Like in most developing countries, the Government of Guyana and Guyanese businesses demand more than just connectivity,” said Ed Ahmad, CEO of GGT. “Data sovereignty, security, connectivity redundancy, and timely tech support are crucial for daily operations. We intend to invest deeply in WANSAT to facilitate Data Centers and other advanced infrastructure, expanding on the innovative work already being undertaken.”
Supporting Government and National Connectivity
WANSAT currently provides vital connectivity to all ten administrative regions of Guyana. The company has been instrumental in supporting government initiatives, providing part of the backbone for the nation’s telemedicine initiatives and virtual court hearings.
In collaboration with business partner One Communications, WANSAT recently implemented a novel hinterland cellular backhaul (CBH) solution utilizing satellite and undersea fiber, which successfully reduced operational costs by over 50%.
Connecting Guyana’s Landmarks to the World
Among its recent technical milestones, WANSAT became the first company to facilitate real-time viewing of the world-famous Kaieteur Falls. Utilizing a 100% green energy solution, the company provides a continuous live video stream for its customer, Vista Services, bringing one of Guyana’s most iconic natural landmarks to a global audience through robust live connectivity.
