Anna Regina Gets New ‘Independence Park’

    Published on

Anna Regina, located on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two, has welcomed a new addition to its community with the commissioning of Independence Park. This initiative is part of the First Lady’s National Beautification Project, which aims to enhance public spaces and foster community engagement across Guyana.

    Features of Independence Park

Independence Park is situated near the State House with access from the Anna Regina Public Road. The park is equipped with amenities such as gazebos, benches, garbage receptacles, washroom facilities, and play equipment like swings, slides, and seesaws for children. Additionally, it offers free WiFi access, making it a modern and inviting space for residents.

    Commissioning Ceremony

First Lady Arya Ali officially opened the park, fulfilling a promise made to the residents of Region Two last year. During the ceremony, she emphasized that the development of Independence Park is part of a broader vision to ensure that every town, village, and community in Guyana has access to quality public spaces that reflect the beauty, dignity, and pride of the people.

    Community Impact

The park serves multiple purposes beyond being a leisure space. It is designed to be a hub where families can gather, children can play safely, seniors can relax, and the community can come together. The First Lady noted that such spaces not only enhance quality of life but also provide opportunities for employment and community cohesion.

    Collaborative Efforts

The construction of Independence Park was a collaborative effort involving the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Public Works, and corporate sponsor Sheriff Guyana. This partnership highlights the potential for public-private collaborations to drive community development projects.

    Future Plans

The commissioning of Independence Park marks a significant milestone for Anna Regina, symbolizing the town’s growth and the government’s commitment to community enhancement. The First Lady reiterated that these developments are part of a larger strategy to improve infrastructure, expand educational opportunities, and create more prospects for young people across Guyana, ensuring that progress reaches every region and home.

Regional Chairperson Vilma De Silva expressed gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging the First Lady’s swift response to the region’s needs. She assured that the park would be properly managed, with oversight from the Mayor and Town Council to ensure its upkeep.

The park’s opening has been welcomed by the community, with Mayor Devin Mohan describing it as a much-needed addition to the municipality. It is seen as a testament to the positive change that can occur when government and communities work together.
