500 Region Seven Families Celebrate Homeownership

    Published on

In a significant milestone for housing development in Guyana, 500 families in Region Seven have become proud homeowners. This achievement is part of a broader initiative by the government to provide affordable housing and improve living standards across the country.

    Land Allocation Ceremony

The land allocation ceremony was held at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, where Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, led the distribution of house lots. The event marked a momentous occasion for many families who have long awaited the opportunity to own their homes.

    Recipients’ Reactions

Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude and joy upon receiving their land titles. For many, this marks the realization of a lifelong dream to provide a stable and secure home for their families. Tracy Anne Persaud, a mother of two, was visibly emotional, highlighting the significance of homeownership in ensuring a better future for her children.

Mohamed Ishak, who applied for a house lot in 2022, shared his elation at finally achieving his dream. He emphasized the sense of independence and freedom that comes with owning one’s own home. Similarly, Tracey Benjamin and Anique Misir expressed their happiness at securing a house lot, which they see as a valuable legacy for their children.

    Housing Developments in Region Seven

The government has established three housing areas in Region Seven: Five Miles, Five Miles Extension, and Block CHPA. Over $2.5 billion has been invested in developing these areas, with infrastructure work completed at Five Miles and set to commence at the Five Miles Extension. An additional $1.1 billion is allocated for the development of Plantation Bartica (Tract Bar), enhancing access to the area.

    Future Plans

Region Seven currently has about 900 pending applicants for house lots. Minister Croal announced that another 128 lots are being prepared at the Mora Camp area through the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission. This ongoing effort reflects the government’s commitment to addressing housing needs and promoting economic growth in the region.

    National Housing Achievements

Since the PPP/C government took office in 2020, a total of 41,849 house lots have been allocated to Guyanese. This significant milestone underscores the government’s dedication to providing affordable housing solutions and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
