-Geeta Chandan-Edmond tells Fyrish community
IN a moving display of conviction and leadership, former Opposition MP, Geeta Chandan-Edmond, addressed a community meeting at the Erwin Abdulla Square in Fyrish on Saturday, delivering a message centred on four pillars: development, dignity, trust, and transformation through proven leadership.
Appearing as a candidate for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) ahead of the September 1 General and Regional Elections, she painted a richly aspirational vision of Guyana’s future.
Chandan-Edmond, in her address, emphasised that the PPP/C was “tried, tested, and proven.” Drawing from the party’s track record, she reiterated: “We are building the future,” not just bridges, roads, and hospitals, but opportunity and social upliftment, echoing the PPP/C’s well-documented achievements in infrastructure and services.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to social equity, she praised programmes such as the ‘Because We Care’ cash grant and other support mechanisms aimed at easing financial burdens for families across Guyana.
The candidate deployed her personal story, a daughter of sugar workers, to underscore why dignity cannot be compromised for political expediency. For Chandan-Edmond, every policy must reinforce the inherent worth of communities historically neglected and maligned.
