Trans Guyana Airways Limited (TGAL) has received official approval from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to implement aircraft-based navigation systems, marking a significant leap forward in aviation safety and efficiency for the country.
The new approval allows TGAL to conduct RNAV (Area Navigation) operations, which utilize advanced onboard navigation technology rather than relying solely on traditional ground-based systems. This upgrade is expected to greatly enhance the airline’s ability to make safer landings, particularly in challenging weather conditions such as low visibility or heavy rainfall—common in Guyana’s hinterland regions.
According to TGAL’s Director of Operations, Captain Andre Farinha, the RNAV system offers several advantages, including improved accuracy and flexibility in flight paths. This means aircraft can take more direct routes, resulting in shorter flight times, increased fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. The technology is also expected to boost operational reliability and passenger safety.
Trans Guyana Airways is now the first and only operator in the country to receive this approval, underscoring its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient air transport services within Guyana and the wider Caribbean. The company’s leadership expressed gratitude to the GCAA for its support and collaboration in advancing aviation standards.
The introduction of RNAV technology is seen as a milestone for Guyana’s aviation sector, positioning the country at the forefront of modern, sustainable air travel in the region.
