The PPP/C Achieves Mission Impossible: Resurrecting Rose Hall Estate

    Published on

In a remarkable turnaround, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government has successfully revived the Rose Hall Sugar Estate, a feat described as “mission impossible” by many observers. The estate, once a thriving economic hub in Berbice, was closed by the previous APNU+AFC administration in 2017, leaving thousands of workers without jobs and devastating the local economy.

The PPP/C government, led by President Irfaan Ali, made a campaign promise to reopen the estate, which was fulfilled with significant investments and efforts. Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha played a pivotal role in spearheading the restoration, emphasizing the importance of reviving the sugar industry for the economic well-being of the region.

The reopening of Rose Hall Estate has brought substantial economic benefits and employment opportunities to Berbice. Over 1,200 workers have been employed, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. The estate’s revival has also infused hope into the community, which had faced immense hardship following its closure.

Despite initial challenges, including mechanical issues and missed production targets, the government remains committed to ensuring the estate’s success. The PPP/C’s efforts have been praised for restoring livelihoods and boosting the socio-economic impact of the community.

This achievement underscores the government’s commitment to supporting key sectors like agriculture and its dedication to fulfilling campaign promises. The resurrection of Rose Hall Estate serves as a testament to the potential for economic recovery and growth when strategic investments are made in critical industries.
