The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) cricket teams have once again celebrated excellence in education by honouring outstanding teachers and students from the Lower Corentyne area. The recognition took place during the Dropattie Ramsammy Tribute to Outstanding Teachers and the Seenarine Memorial Tribute to Students programmes, held at the Saint Francis Community Developers Training Hall.
Five students from Lower Corentyne Secondary School were named Students of the Year 2023, each recognized as the top student in their respective grade levels. The honoured students—Michael Smith (Grade 7), Amanda Sampson (Grade 8), Afzal Nabi (Grade 9), Emmanuel Paul (Grade 10), and Tameshwar Nandlall (Grade 11)—received trophies, medals, framed certificates, electronic tablets, and special gift packages. The awards highlighted not only their academic achievements but also their dedication and discipline.
Nine teachers from various schools were also celebrated under the Dropattie Ramsammy Tribute to Teachers programme. These educators were chosen based on classroom performance, discipline, attendance, and their positive relationships with students. Each received a trophy, certificate, medal, electronic tablet, and a special gift package, in addition to being treated to lunch at the event.
RHTYSC Secretary Hilbert Foster commended the awardees, describing them as heroes of the educational system and urging them to continue striving for excellence. He emphasized the club’s commitment to promoting education as the foundation of success and called on teachers to share their experiences to inspire others in the profession.
Sponsor Dropattie Ramsammy, a former student of Lower Corentyne Secondary now working as a nurse in New York, expressed her delight at supporting the programmes, highlighting the transformative power of education and community support. She pledged continued sponsorship for future initiatives.
The RHTYSC plans to expand its Tribute to Heroes programme in 2024, aiming to honour over 100 outstanding Berbicians, including teachers, retired educators, law enforcement officers, medical workers, and sportsmen. The club’s ongoing efforts underscore its dedication to recognizing and uplifting those who contribute positively to the community, both on and off the cricket field.
