President Dr. Irfaan Ali has assured the nation that justice will be served for innocent individuals who were robbed or injured during the recent wave of violence that swept across Guyana. The unrest, which erupted following the release of autopsy results in a high-profile child death case, saw criminal elements exploiting the situation to inflict harm, loot businesses, and destroy property.
Speaking after meeting with dozens of affected citizens, President Ali expressed deep concern for the pain and trauma experienced, particularly by women and children. He pledged that those responsible for inflicting injury, damage, and loss would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. “The pain of innocent women and children is always the worst and hardest to imagine. Some of the stories were deeply troubling and horrific. I assured these individuals and families of my support and commitment to ensuring they, too, receive justice,” the President stated.
Law enforcement agencies have already made significant progress, with over 100 arrests for various offences related to the unrest, including robbery, arson, and malicious damage. Authorities are reviewing images and videos captured during the disturbances to identify and prosecute those involved in criminal acts.
President Ali also called for national unity and an end to violence and looting, emphasizing that such actions only deepen the suffering of victims and undermine the rule of law. He urged all Guyanese to respect the rights of others and to demonstrate empathy and solidarity during this challenging period.
The government, alongside law enforcement, continues to monitor the situation closely and has implemented curfews and increased patrols to ensure public safety. President Ali reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting victims and restoring peace, promising that justice will not only be pursued but delivered.
