Pensioner Receives New Home from Ministry of Housing on Father’s Day

In a heartwarming gesture that brought smiles and tears of joy, a local pensioner received the keys to a brand-new home from the Ministry of Housing and Water (MoM) on Father’s Day, marking a memorable milestone for both the recipient and the community.

The beneficiary, 72-year-old Samuel James, had spent years living in substandard conditions, struggling to make ends meet on a modest pension. His story touched the hearts of many after it was highlighted by community leaders, prompting swift action from the Ministry.

The official handover ceremony took place on Sunday morning, with Minister Susan Rodrigues and a team from the Central Housing and Planning Authority present to celebrate the occasion. Neighbors, family members, and well-wishers gathered to witness the emotional moment as Mr. James was handed the keys to his new, fully furnished two-bedroom home.

“Today, we are not just giving Mr. James a house; we are restoring dignity, comfort, and hope,” Minister Rodrigues said. “No one should have to spend their golden years in hardship. This is our way of honoring fathers and elders who have contributed so much to our society.”

Mr. James, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude. “This is the best Father’s Day gift I could ever imagine. I thank everyone who made this possible. My heart is full,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion.

The Ministry’s intervention is part of its ongoing social housing program, which aims to improve living conditions for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, single parents, and persons with disabilities. Officials confirmed that several similar projects are underway across the country, with more families set to benefit in the coming months.

As the sun set on Father’s Day, the community celebrated not just a new home, but a renewed sense of hope and unity—proving that acts of kindness can truly transform lives.
