New Ferry to Boost Connectivity on Essequibo Route from September, President Ali Confirms

    Published on

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced the imminent arrival of a second ferry to service the critical Parika to Supenaam Essequibo route, with operations set to commence by September. The announcement, made during a vibrant People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) mega concert at Anna Regina, was met with enthusiastic applause from thousands of attendees, underscoring the significance of the upgrade for residents and businesses in Region Two.

The government has already signed the contract for the new ferry, marking a tangible step toward fulfilling its pledge to enhance transportation infrastructure in the region. President Ali assured the public that the PPP/C’s commitments are steadfast, telling the crowd, “When the PPP guarantees you, you know it will be done.” The introduction of the additional vessel is expected to alleviate congestion, reduce wait times, and provide a more reliable connection between communities, businesses, and industries in Essequibo and neighboring regions.

Beyond transportation, the administration is advancing a comprehensive development agenda for Essequibo. President Ali revealed that designs for two state-of-the-art rice storage facilities have been completed, and a rice stabilization mechanism is in the works to secure better pricing and stability for local farmers. The government also plans to establish a co-investment development fund to support farmers, small business owners, and manufacturers, aiming to stimulate economic growth and wealth creation at the community level.

The announcement comes as the PPP/C gears up for an ambitious next term, promising accelerated development and expanded social services. President Ali reaffirmed his party’s commitment to national unity, development, and the well-being of all Guyanese, while also addressing ongoing concerns about Venezuela’s territorial claims over the Essequibo region. He pledged continued vigilance in defending Guyana’s sovereignty and maintaining strong international alliances.

With the new ferry service and a suite of economic initiatives, Essequibo is poised for a period of renewed opportunity and growth, as the government works to deliver on its promises and transform the region into a hub of connectivity and prosperity.
