The government has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art polyclinic at Industry, East Coast Demerara, with an investment of $715 million. This significant development is part of the ongoing national initiative to modernise and expand healthcare infrastructure across Guyana.

According to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), the bidding process for the project is set to open on May 27, 2025, at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board office. The new facility is expected to provide a wide range of medical services, addressing the growing healthcare needs of residents in Industry and surrounding communities.

This project is one of several recent investments in the health sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare. Over the past few years, numerous health centres and posts have been constructed or upgraded nationwide, with a focus on decentralising services and ensuring that every Guyanese has access to modern medical care.

The new polyclinic at Industry will join a network of upgraded and newly built health facilities, including those at Agricola, East La Penitence, David Rose, Alberttown, Lodge, Sophia, North East La Penitence, Campbellville, and Kitty. In addition, six new regional hospitals are scheduled to become operational this year, further enhancing specialised care for thousands of residents.

Health officials have emphasised that the construction and renovation of health centres are central to the government’s broader strategy to boost healthcare delivery at the community level. With close to 380 health facilities managed across the country, these ongoing upgrades are designed to create better conditions for patients and ensure that essential services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

The Industry polyclinic is expected to play a key role in this effort, offering improved facilities and services that will benefit the community for years to come.
