Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, made a spirited visit to the Port Mourant Cricket Club earlier today, reaffirming his commitment to youth development and community engagement in his home county.

Minister Bharrat, a native of Berbice and a passionate advocate for sports and education, interacted with young cricketers and club officials, emphasizing the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance both on and off the field. His presence was met with enthusiasm by aspiring athletes, many of whom look up to him not only as a government leader but also as a role model who remains deeply connected to his roots.

During his visit, Minister Bharrat announced his sponsorship of a two-day cricket coaching clinic in collaboration with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB). The initiative, designed to benefit at least 100 under-19 players, will offer both theoretical and practical training sessions. Senior players and recognized coaches will guide participants, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. The program will also provide meals, snacks, and transportation for attendees, removing barriers to participation for youths from across the region.

Minister Bharrat’s engagement at the club is part of his broader mission to give back to the community that shaped him. Raised and educated in New Amsterdam, he has consistently supported local sports and youth programs, drawing on his background as an educator and mentor. His efforts have been widely praised by community leaders and sports administrators, who credit him with fostering a culture of opportunity and empowerment among Berbice’s young people.

As Minister Bharrat addressed the gathering, he encouraged the youths to pursue their dreams with determination and integrity, highlighting the role of sports in building character and uniting communities. The upcoming coaching clinic, he said, is just one step in a larger vision to nurture talent and promote positive values through sport.

The event at Port Mourant Cricket Club underscores Minister Bharrat’s enduring dedication to grassroots development and his belief in the transformative power of youth engagement. As preparations begin for the coaching clinic, the community looks forward to seeing the next generation of cricketers take the field—equipped not only with new skills, but with the inspiration to excel.
