The construction of the internal road in Karaudarnau, Region Nine, has reached 75% completion, marking a significant milestone in the $185 million project aimed at improving connectivity and living standards for over 1,000 residents in this Indigenous community.
The Ministry of Public Works provided an update on Monday, confirming that the project is progressing steadily under the management of Beerdat Harrinandan Construction. Once completed, the road will enhance access to essential services and facilitate smoother transportation within the village, which is home to Wapishana Amerindians.
Transforming Lives in Karaudarnau
Residents of Karaudarnau have long faced challenges due to poor infrastructure, particularly during the rainy season when travel becomes difficult. The new internal road is expected to alleviate these issues by providing a reliable and durable transportation route. This development is part of broader efforts by the government to improve infrastructure in remote areas across Guyana.
The village, located in the Rupununi savannah near the Rupununi River, relies heavily on agriculture and livestock for its economy. Improved roads will not only ease movement but also open new opportunities for trade and economic growth.
Part of a Larger Development Agenda
The Karaudarnau internal road project is one of several infrastructure initiatives underway in Region Nine as part of Guyana’s commitment to rural development. These projects aim to bridge gaps between remote communities and urban centers while fostering economic integration and social progress.
As work continues on the road, residents eagerly anticipate its completion, which is expected to bring lasting benefits to their daily lives and the overall development of their community.
