As part of the Government of Guyana’s vision to deliver 40,000 homes within the next five years, the Ministry of Housing —through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA)—is deepening its collaboration with financial institutions to help more Guyanese families achieve the dream of homeownership.

Today, a high-level meeting took place between the Ministry’s leadership and representatives from several major banks to strengthen coordination, address existing challenges, and identify new partnership opportunities within the housing sector.

Leading the discussions were Minister of Housing Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry Vanessa Benn; Permanent Secretary Mr. Bishram Kuppen; and CH&PA’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Martin Pertab, along with senior management officials.

Representatives from the New Building Society (NBS), Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Citizens Bank Guyana Inc., Demerara Bank Limited, and Bank of Baroda provided valuable insights and recommendations aimed at streamlining the financing and construction processes for homeowners.

The meeting was constructive and solution-oriented, highlighting the shared commitment of all parties to eliminate bottlenecks and improve service delivery.

Minister Croal reaffirmed the Ministry’s focus on enhancing efficiency and accountability across the housing sector, noting that strengthened collaboration with the Land Registry will support the faster processing of Certificates of Title and Transports.

Meanwhile, CEO Dr. Pertab outlined the agency’s plans to implement improved oversight and quality assurance measures for home construction, ensuring that Guyanese homeowners receive durable and high-quality houses.

The engagement concluded positively, with both the Ministry and participating financial institutions pledging to continue their collaboration to make homeownership more accessible, affordable, and efficient for all Guyanese.
