The government has fulfilled a major commitment to improving access to justice with the official opening of the new $178 million Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve the legal needs of Region Two.

The modern courthouse, located in the heart of Anna Regina, features spacious courtrooms, secure holding areas, and upgraded technology to support efficient case management and virtual hearings. The project, completed on schedule and within budget, is part of the administration’s broader drive to enhance the country’s judicial infrastructure and ensure timely, fair justice for all citizens.

At the opening ceremony, government officials and members of the judiciary praised the new facility as a milestone for the region. Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall highlighted the importance of the court in reducing case backlogs and improving the quality of legal services available to residents. “This new court is a testament to our commitment to justice reform and regional development,” Nandlall said.

Local residents and legal professionals have welcomed the development, noting that it will reduce the need for lengthy travel and delays previously experienced due to inadequate facilities. The new Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court is expected to handle a wide range of civil and criminal matters, providing a more comfortable and secure environment for judges, staff, and the public.

The government’s investment in the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court is part of a series of upgrades to judicial infrastructure nationwide, reflecting its promise to modernize Guyana’s legal system and ensure that justice is accessible to every citizen.
