Goed Fortuin Set for Major Security and Infrastructure Upgrades

    Published on

Residents of Goed Fortuin in Region Three are poised to benefit from a comprehensive slate of security and infrastructure improvements, following a series of announcements made by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali during a community engagement on Monday.

As part of the government’s “Safe Community, Safe Country” initiative, the village will soon see the installation of new street lights and security cameras at key locations. These measures are aimed at enhancing public safety and deterring crime within the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).

In a move to address longstanding infrastructure needs, President Ali revealed that a mini excavator will be permanently stationed in the community through the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) to ensure regular maintenance of the drainage system. Additionally, a new ultra-deep well will be drilled to improve water access for residents, and a previously stalled koker project will resume under a new contractor.

The president also announced that two major roads and bridges are slated for construction, with tenders for these projects already issued. The community centre building will undergo rehabilitation and be transformed into an e-learning centre, offering a “second chance” programme for young people wishing to rewrite Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) subjects. At least four subjects will be targeted, helping participants qualify for the nursing programme. Those enrolled will receive a stipend and guaranteed employment upon completion.

President Ali emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises and building an integrated, united future for all Guyanese. He also announced the extension of the electronic ticketing system to the Region Three highway, further enhancing road safety for families in the area.

The announcements were met with optimism from residents, who welcomed the government’s focus on both immediate and long-term improvements to security, education, and essential services in Goed Fortuin.
