    Published on

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has bolstered its operational capabilities with the recent acquisition of specialised military equipment from the French Armed Forces. The official handover ceremony took place at the GDF Hangar, Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, marking a significant step in the ongoing defence cooperation between Guyana and France.

The delivery, made under established defence agreements, is designed to enhance the GDF’s readiness and interoperability with allied forces in the region. Select GDF personnel are set to undergo specialised training as part of the initiative, ensuring effective integration and use of the new equipment.

During the ceremony, Captain (Coast Guard) Vernon Burnett underscored the growing partnership between Guyana and French Guiana, noting that this latest support further advances operational collaboration and mutual security interests. French Chargé d’Affaires in Guyana, Jean-Jacques Forté, reaffirmed France’s commitment to regional security and praised the robust defence relationship with Guyana.

The event was attended by senior military officials from both countries, including the Commandant of the Guyana National Reserve, Colonel Lloyd Souvenir; Colonel Administration and Quartering, Commander Roger Nurse; Colonel Special Duties, Commander Sean Harmon; Adjutant General, Lieutenant Colonel Eon Murray; and the French Defence Attaché to Guyana and Suriname, Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Marc Moulin.

This latest development follows a series of military exchanges and collaborations between Guyana and France, aimed at strengthening security cooperation, building capacity, and fostering regional stability. The GDF’s enhanced capabilities are expected to play a key role in safeguarding Guyana’s territorial integrity and supporting broader regional security initiatives.
